Payload: Payload can vary by model within a vehicle line based on how each model is equipped. Anything that increases a vehicle’s curb weight, such as all-wheel or four-wheel drive, a moonroof or a third row of seats, can reduce the payload. Compared to the 5.3L engine, there is little to no difference in payload.

Engine Output: Our 2.7-liter engine delivers more pound-feet of torque for maximum performance, making it easy to move heavy loads.

Fuel Economy: Rising gas prices make owning a truck – that knows how to save – more important than ever. Balancing the right engine for your driving needs is key. With the 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output engine, you’ll get a little more distance.

Maximum Towing Capacity: Upon first glance, the Chevy Silverado 1500 maintains an air of grandeur. This impressive pickup truck inspires the achiever in us to push past boundaries and exceed our goals. If you want a powerhouse in your corner, look no further than the Silverado 1500. The 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output engine delivers a maximum towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds.

Chevy Silverado 2.7-Liter Four-Cylinder Engine Test – Hard to Believe

July 28th, 2022

By: John Goreham

“In normal driving, the 2.7 is fantastic. It offers – you won’t believe this – 430 lb-ft of torque. That’s a tremendous amount of torque for an engine this size. And it’s really there. The torque is felt from a very low RPM point. The truck pulls hard and smooth. Even better, the truck can scoot. On a dry summer day, we used 2WD and found the truck wanted to spin the tires if we gave it the boot from a stop. Accelerate up an on-ramp, and the truck feels very fast and very satisfying.

As good as the Silverado is overall, we can’t say enough about this amazing engine. We would recommend it to anyone who plans to buy a truck but doesn’t plan to tow massive loads all the time.”

Why You Want Chevy’s 2.7L Turbo in Your Truck

October 16th, 2022

By: Danielle McKinney

“When it comes to truck engines, conventional wisdom says the bigger, the better. More cylinders and higher displacement mean more power. So why would Chevy leave behind the old 7.4L and 8.1L big block V8 engines of the past and switch to a tiny 2.7L I-4? Well, it turns out there is a replacement for displacement, and it’s called forced induction. Add a turbocharger or a supercharger to an engine, and it will punch far above what its size might suggest. In fact, the new 2.7L High-Output Turbo provides roughly the same output as the old 8.1L Vortec found in the first-generation Chevy Silverado!”
